Hilbish - Blackman Family

The story of the Hilbish Family begins with Johann Henrich Hülpusch, son of Henrich Hülpusch, a miller at Wied, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany and his wife Anna Magdalena Schmidt. Johann Henrich and Anna Magdalena were the parents of two sons, Johann Peter, baptized 1 May 1710 and Johann Christian, baptized 2 April 1720 in the parish of Altstadt, and left Germany in 1749 aboard the ship Two Brothers, stopping first at Rotterdam, and then continuing on to America, arriving in Philadelphia on 14 September 1749. They settled on a farm just outside of Zieglerville, in Montgomery Co. PA.

The story of the Blackman family begins with John Blackman who died in Dorchester, Suffolk Co. MA, now a part of Boston, in 1675. Research by Charles Edward Banks & published in his Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emigrants indicates he came from Leicestershire, England. Two sons of John Blackman V, Thomas, who married Hannah Fillebrown, & Samuel who married Charlotte Jackson, both married in Boston, migrated to Washington Co. IN in the early 1800s.
